I’ve actually never watched the new BSG, just the original show. So I’m not sure where the continuity of the more contemporary stuff fits in, I’m afraid.
The original run technically starts with that very long pilot (your first link) followed by the 70′s series, followed by the 1980 series. I have not seen the 80′s or newer shows, as none of those contained Dirk Benedict.I’ve read the remake is better that the original but I just don’t know where the remake starts .
But maybe I just heard wrong idk
They are…completely different tonally and don’t match up in timeline really. I never finished the new one tbh and I didn’t get into it like I did the original (it was my childhood, there was fanfic), but I found it enjoyable enough. There are nods to the original, but you have to look at them as separate entities. What I found watching the new one as a mega fan of the old one:
-The remake is very much for newer audiences, the original was a product of its era. They can both be appreciated on their own terms but do not expect one to be the other.
-Twisty twisted story. More serial and less “planet of the week”
-It is DRAMA. SO much drama. Political, soapy, also much war. I personally can’t sit through too many episodes all at once or I start really rooting for the Cylons because geez Colonials get it together
-It more deeply explores so so so many lore things that the original only hinted at and it makes me SO HAPPY to see this stuff finally on the screen.
-many twists…some surprises…don’t spoiler yourself for full effect
