I tend to stay away from AP cannons, they definitely dont suit me. I’m pretty much a beam boat, four Mk X antiprotons on the front, three Mk X on the back with a Quantum Torpedo. That seems to be the only combination I can get to work well!
Ahhh ok. I’ve been running cannons the last couple of months. I like the feel of flying a nimble machine gun but I think it does lower the dps. Beams just don’t work so well when I’m zigzagging all over everywhere. I threw one in the back to catch the Vaadwaur when they yo-yo behind me and leave their shields exposed, and that’s worked out really well.

I’ve always seemed to have really bad luck with everything apart from antiproton! Like I heard disruptors were really good, so I tried them with all the disruptor tactical consoles and such and I couldn’t seem to do as much DPS as AP :O AP seems to be my lucky weapon because that seems to be the only type of weapon i can get to work well 😦
I’m not sure how the DPS compares, I don’t remember. I didn’t have AP very long. I took them into a few battles, had all the consoles, etc, and I wasn’t making any kind of dent with them. A lot of players swear by AP but maybe I wasn’t using them right xD I don’t know. Nothing about the way I prefer to play seems to be typical. Though I have considered trying an AP beam build on a cruiser…it feels like I should give it a second chance. Maybe it’s just the cannons I don’t get along with.
I guess ultimately with weapon type, it seems to comes down to how you like to play and what you fly.

What do you think about the Galaxy Dreadnought? I’ve swapped to that from my Tactical Odyssey. Its super slow and all but she can really take some hard hits! I’m also not great with DPS and such so I’m pretty surprised with how she performs! I use all Mk X Antiproton beams, no idea if thats great and all. What do you use on your prometheus class?
I have the default Galaxy, and I play with it sometimes. I’ve started to learn to have fun with it, but I prefer my escorts’ speed and maneuverability in general. It’s kinda strange how my preference shifted, because I used to fly everything like it was a cruiser. But yeah, my Galaxy is really enjoyable in big battles. I like to fly into the middle of them and just sit there firing.
I’ve set up my new Prometheus with disruptors for now (cannons and turrets and I tossed a random beam of some kind on there because I’m weird). My old ship actually has a polaron cannon build that I really enjoy. I tried antiprotons, too, but for whatever reason, I just didn’t like them. I feel like I’m the only person who doesn’t xD I crit like crazy with disruptors and they’re working for me so far. I might try ap again someday.
