rurinnfane:

When I did Romulan makeup for my sis, I just painted on the forehead ridges with shades of eyeshadow. Everyone thought they were sculpted, just shaded like a graphic art. Also HAVE FUN 😀 I wanna go too!

!!!! That’s a really good idea! I might have to test that out later this evening (my eyeshadow/makeup stash in general is pretty limited — I powdered my face in green eyeshadow on Halloween while chanting I should’ve thought this through more — I maaaay be able to make it work though!)
AND I’LL TRYYY this is going to be my very first con ever and I’m pretty nervous

*drags you to new mexico for the weekend*

If you can just shade the green or whatever your base makeup is slightly lighter and slightly darker, you’ve got it made 😀 Try mixing colors? I have a ton of different eyeshadows and makeups because I am slightly insane and I love doing alien makeup…but yeah it just takes three shades to make a ridge. One light, one dark, one medium.

AHHH I WISH I COULD GO. I’m a lot farther than Amarillo though. But yeee first cons are exciting! My first was a tiny con with no famous guests, and I only made it to one panel, but I loved it anyway.

BSG belt arrived and it’s wayyyyy too small. If I wanted it to fit my waist, it fits perfectly, but it won’t work at all for the low-slung holster look I was promised. I gave it to my tall slender sis and it BARELY works for her. Freaking gosh am I remembering wrong and were all the warriors super slender? (Jolly? wtf Jolly what were you wearing dude) I’m thinking I’ll just have to get two belts and put them together :/

I also found a really cool Classic Galactica forum but they seem a tad elitist and I feel really intimidated. They’ve got this caveat that your uniform has to be screen-accurate and have the buckles and stuff. The buckles aren’t currently available and I can’t time travel. Let alone afford a $500 pair of boots, ok.

why oh why could they have not done a better job with the new Galactica. Throw on a couple tank tops and you’re done.

And here we haaaave…my latest project/christmas present to myself/carrot on a stick to get myself to stop procrastinating constantly! For those who don’t know, I’m a big Classic Galactica fan. I’ve been working on this costume for ages, but never had the resources or skills to make it actually fit me or look good.

It won’t be 100% accurate. I’ve got to improvise on it for now due to not being able to afford the discontinued items like the buckles (I can’t even find those…but I found a place that will custom make buckles if I order 3,000 of them at a time!) and that damned checkerboard ribbon.

Searching for 30 year old costume pieces and realizing how ironic it is…they used a kind of Magic Marker back then and spray painted it gold for a costume part to keep production costs down. Nowdays, propmakers are having to

resin cast

Magic Markers because they can’t find enough. So costumers now have literally much nicer and more expensive versions of the costume pieces due to the passage of time, and we’re still having to make our costumes look like spray painted, hastily altered crap to be “screen accurate”.

This may be one reason I have such a difficult time convincing myself to push for screen accuracy. Variation allows me more wiggle room than an exact replica does. Plus I can’t afford the freakishly expensive pieces. $40 for a pin? Yikes!

Though I do admire the replicas, I also really like putting my own twist on a costume.

Darn anon. Made me wear lipstick. My superduperquick attempt at OUaT Regina Mills makeup. I couldn’t find my blazer or I would have put together a better outfit.
