chronic illness terminology
health-deprecating: spoonie signature style of humor, necessary to cope with a life of illness, but that makes most healthy people really uncomfortable or respond with a sad face instead of laughing along with you which is really a buzzkill.
netflix and pills: a typical day off/ hang out sesh.
illnesia: when you have an invisible chronic illness and you tell healthy people about it but a week later they develop amnesia that they were ever told. repeat x infinity.
brainfrog: when your brains are so mushy that you can no make words? spell?? think??? ribbit????
grandma candies: this is what I call my chewable antacids, but it can be applied to many medications.

recharge: when even after getting a full night’s sleep, you get a low battery signal on your body and you just…stop…moving…beep occasionally if you didn’t make it to your recharge dock (bed)
kryptonite: for me, this is fluorescent lights, exercise, not eating, cold, and stress. It can be anything that sets off a flare. It can be nothing at all. It can be everything.
painsplaining: when someone tries to justify their behavior with how much pain and suffering they are going through and you are just trying to remain upright as your body and/or mind actively tries to rip you into pieces
vacation: rare days of having energy. Activities can include grocery shopping outings and doing chores. artificial vacation days can sometimes occur due to pushing yourself really hard, but these are often paid for with more recovery weeks than naturally occurring vacation days.
cyborg parts: anything metal or plastic that becomes a part of your body when you want to move somewhere. these can also become very effective weapons. use the power wisely.
“Do you still have a really bad headache?”
Me: *has to think about this for a while to determine if yes or if I just got used to it and then panics because the long delay makes any reply sound implausible*

Just got back from the Renfaire today; the one place I feel badass with my cane.
