Captain’s log:

U.S.S. Splendid, Captain Cecil Killian reporting.

With a good chunk of the fleet deployed in the Delta Quadrant, the Splendid has been picking up a number of patrols that would have normally been done by at least three other ships.

However a few minutes ago we picked up a faint distress signal during a routine scan, apparently coming from an escape pod just outside Romulan space. The pod uses a transponder that corresponds to what the Republic is currently using, so I have diverted the ship to investigate.

We will arrive at the pod’s location in… less than an hour at warp 9. The speed was necessary as T’Vrell has identified at least one other ship that has discovered the signal, and we can’t say if it is friend or foe.

I’m hopeful we’ll reach the pod first.

Day 125

Keitia and D’Van, two of my crew who were becoming…my family. The Jevonite…the ship that was becoming our home. They’re gone. I know that for sure.

All I have left is this life pod and Tovan. I don’t even know if anyone else survived.

Day 118

The Tal Shiar.
How…why…? We were leaving Romulan space. Why attack us now?
I…I guess you can never really be free of them, once they have your scent. Once you’re on their list, and there’s no one to stand behind you.

Cowards. Attacking one little ship with a whole fleet.

Computer, I can’t do this right now. End log.

Day 117

I transmitted the information that we found at the Tal Shiar base, over what I was assured was a secure channel back to our ex-Romulan Empire contact. She confirmed that she received it, so we are on our way out of Romulan space. We haven’t been cleared for travel to the Delta Quadrant yet, so I am not sure where we will go yet. I just want to get away from this green-blooded mess we seem to have been caught in the middle of. Somehow I doubt that we’d be welcomed in Federation space, but they don’t control everything. There’s got to be space somewhere to slip through.

Day 112

I led a team to the facility that we were informed was a potential Tal Shiar base. We found a single Tal Shiar agent working there and removed the threat before she could call for backup. We did not find the missing device, but their computers revealed a good deal of information about this device, and other related technology that has been hidden by the old Romulan government all over the system. It appears to be of Iconian origin, relating to their use of gateway technology.

I’m not sure what it all means yet, but I can definitely see why both the Republic and the Tal Shiar are desperate to get their hands on this information and technology, and keep it from each other.

Day 102

Met with the contact on a decidedly seedy space station. I like the place, it has…atmosphere. Anyway, the contact had some insight about a potential Tal Shiar base where they might be hiding the device that we had previously tried and failed to recover. Considering the source, a supposedly expatriated Romulan government agent, It sounds like it’s most definitely a trap. It also sounds like it is worth checking out. If there’s a chance we can ambush the Tal Shiar for once, I’m all for it.

Day 99

Word of our disagreement with Starfleet and the Romulan government has gotten around. It has made us less popular in most places, and more popular in others. Business has been slow. We’ve spent a good deal of time avoiding confrontations with our former allies.

So it was not a welcome sight when I received a message with Romulan encoding today, asking to meet at a space station. The contact claims to have a mission for us of utmost secrecy and importance. I have spoken to Tovan about this, and he urges me to at least meet with this person. We can’t keep the ship flying with hopes and dreams.

I think we will at least hear this person out, and maybe do this one last job, and then leave Romulan space. I hear that there’s plenty of work opening up in the Delta quadrant, if we can arrange passage.

Day 92

The crew and I had a busy day today, killing off a swarm of giant insects for some farmers, retrieving a priceless heirloom, and being intercepted by some meddling Starfleet officers. I’ve made it a point to avoid dealings with Starfleet whenever possible; I don’t understand why they think my business is any of theirs.

Unfortunately, taking out a Starfleet away team (because of a misunderstanding over a dusty painting, no less!) attracted the attention of the Romulans, with whom Starfleet is allied. I’m fairly certain we’re no longer on the Republic’s good side. I wonder if we should keep the “RRW” or just go by Jevonite from here on out.

Who needs the Romulans, anyway. We’re doing just fine on our own, now.

Day 87.7

It seems there were some Cardassians still left on board, alive. They didn’t appreciate our attempts to recycle their unused materials, so they attacked us and we defended ourselves. The entire shipment was successfully beamed onboard the Jevonite with no complications, so we will be underway soon.

What have I become, that I can slaughter my own people, derelict, adrift in their vessel, and feel nothing afterward? I was concerned that my emotional state would collide with the mission objective, but now I am disturbed by my lack of emotions at all.
