I’m in an interdisciplinary science class that’s covering geology now, and this got me thinking about the geologic history of the alien worlds in Star Trek. What are they like? How has the geography and climate of the planet shaped the animal and plant life? What kind of cultures rose and fell in these alien environments? There are so many unanswered questions about these cultures’ histories.
Since there is so much empty space to work with, I’m sure many have chosen to fill in the blanks with headcanons. I’m sure said headcanons are varied and I’d love to hear about them. I’d like to start something called Headcanon Sunday as an open call for headcanons about a given thing in Trek.
This week’s topic: anything related to Cardassia. So, give me what you’ve got, Tumblr… for Cardassia!
I just had a discussion about whether or not Cardassians have drinking songs. My headcanon is…probably not many. They don’t strike me as a people that is typically comfortable with regularly losing their inhibitions and letting their guard down for wild nights of karaoke in the bar. They seem more likely to let those with the talent for singing perform ballads in concert halls, and perhaps sing songs to their children to help them sleep at night.
That’s not to say that an individual would not find themselves over-indulging on occasion, and attempting to keep up, should a song occur in his or her vicinity.
