Searching for 30 year old costume pieces and realizing how ironic it is…they used a kind of Magic Marker back then and spray painted it gold for a costume part to keep production costs down. Nowdays, propmakers are having to

Magic Markers because they can’t find enough. So costumers now have literally much nicer and more expensive versions of the costume pieces due to the passage of time, and we’re still having to make our costumes look like spray painted, hastily altered crap to be “screen accurate”.

This may be one reason I have such a difficult time convincing myself to push for screen accuracy. Variation allows me more wiggle room than an exact replica does. Plus I can’t afford the freakishly expensive pieces. $40 for a pin? Yikes!

Though I do admire the replicas, I also really like putting my own twist on a costume.

Garak dealing with rude customers probably

Garak externally: “ *SMILES* It is so kind of you to grace my humble shop with your business, please do let me know how I can help you more

Garak interally: I am gONNA ASSASSINATE YOU, YOU’RE DEAD, YOU ARE GONE. IN THE NAME OF CARDASSIA I WILL STRIKE YOU DOWN, YOU WILL WATCH EVERYTHING YOU HOLD DEAR BURN TO THE GROUND AND I SHALL BE THE ONE TO SET IT ABLAZE

Thanksgiving is gonna be hell this year, and I kind of doubt we’re going to have much of a Christmas celebration. The whole holiday thing feels like some weird alien tradition that I don’t understand anymore, but I’m being forced to observe anyway. (why all the smiling cartoon turkeys? it’s not like turkeys approve of being eaten as part of a tradition, and it’s kinda disturbing.)

I’ve got a lot to be thankful for this year, but most of it isn’t something I can safely share around the dinner table with the relatives.

Christmas is usually my favorite because I love giving gifts, but this year I can’t afford to do much and it’s kinda killing me.

I don’t know. I just want it all to be over.

I saw the remark in your tags about humans and religion and wanted to mention that in Babylon 5, our wide variety of religious ideas IS presented as one of our alien quirks! Most of the other species have a few minor sects within a dominant religion, but only humans have so many and so varied belief systems. Everyone else finds it odd and fascinating and wonders how we manage it all.

tinsnip:

Oh, man, I need to watch Babylon 5! The more I hear about it, the more I say to myself, self, that is some smart SF!

Thanks for tipping me off!

Yes! Babylon 5! I can’t even articulate the awesome that is Babylon 5! It’s dark, but it is goooood.
